Claude Jones Fair game
acrylic, pencil, pastel, collage and screenprint on canvas
Fair game is a critique of hunting. The title is ironic. For hunters, the sense of challenge, the rules, costume and accoutrement are all used to justify hunting is a ‘sport’, yet the pursuits of hunting hardly constitute ‘fair game’ or ‘good sportsmanship’ since the animal is oblivious to any such organisation, rules or structure and certainly has no desire to participate in a ‘game’ that culminates in its own death.
