Exhibition dates: 3 March to 13 May 2007

When John Beard was awarded the prize for his portrait of artist Janet Laurence, he became the first person to be an Archibald winner as both painter and sitter without painting a self-portrait. Beard had been the subject of Fred Cress’s 1988 winning portrait.
