The subject of this portrait is writer Frannie Hopkirk (born 1937), who sat twice for William Pidgeon. Sister of artist Brett Whiteley, Hopkirk is also known as Wendy Whiteley – the same name as Brett’s wife.
This work is now in the collection of the Art Gallery of NSW. A later portrait of Frannie by Rodney Pople was a finalist in the Archibald Prize 2015.
