Vernon Jones Wing Commander AC Rawlinson, DFC and Bar

This portrait by Vernon Jones of Alan Charles Rawlinson, who served with the Royal Australian Air Force, is now in the collection of the State Library Victoria. At the time it was painted, Jones was also serving in the RAAF as a flight lieutenant.

In the catalogue for the Archibald Prize 1944, the artist was listed as Fl-Lt Vernon Jones and the sitter’s surname appeared incorrectly as Hawkinson in the work’s title.
