Bernice Edwell Miniature (Title unknown)

Although there are no official records of either the artist or subject of this work, it is thought to be one of three miniatures entered by Bernice Edwell into the inaugural Archibald Prize, based on newspaper articles about the exhibition. Two of these miniatures were of 'much-medalled military persons’. The sitter of this portrait is possibly Walter Coxen (1870-1949), a senior Australian army officer who had served in the First World War.
