Norman Carter Elioth Gruner

oil

This portrait of artist Elioth Gruner (1882-1939) is one of four works Norman Carter entered into the inaugural Archibald Prize. An article at the time said it showed Gruner 'with painting kit, a palette in his hand. The easy pose, the face with the half-smiling, curiously vivid expression so characteristic of Mr Gruner, is a fine example of Mr Carter’s skills’.
