Artist’s statement

My body of work uses etching to explore the intergenerational connection between people and land in a stolen cultural upbringing. Simple lines etched into zinc plates reveal the faces of my father, grandmother, grandfather and great-grandmother. They are in varying orientations to represent the emotional impact of this hardship, subtly making reference to traditional Indigenous carving techniques. The inherent repetition in the zinc plate printmaking process is paired with multiple plate prints, resulting in a series of organic shapes printed in earthy colours that add to the representation of our unique relationships.
