Artist’s statement

Nostalgia: a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one’s life, to one’s home or homeland, or to one’s family and friends. My work embodies the concept of nostalgia. The title, Reis van migratie, is in Dutch to allude to my family’s journey of migration from Holland to Australia. The installation references my family but evokes travel and migration across the world during the 1950s and 60s post World War II. A series of laser-cut Perspex images, inspired by old family photographs, recreates the idea of glass slides. The audience can interact with the work by viewing the slides of their choice.
