Artist’s statement

An impalpable barrier stifles females in the workplace, preventing women from attaining top positions as they hit the metaphorical ‘glass ceiling’, leaving them under-represented in positions of power. These ideas are exemplified in the figures that fill my artwork. I used welding, a traditionally masculine medium, with the intent to rebel against the stifling perceptions of women and their capabilities. The physical manipulation of the rigid metal which I used to construct the work aligns with the difficulty of breaking the invisible ceiling which ultimately stifles female success.
