Artist’s statement

Inspired by Jeffrey Smart, my body of work comments on modern urban alienation, depicting a post-industrial landscape which has been created by humans, but which we have now lost control over. My intent was for the work to be ‘too real to be real’, and to reference surrealism. I have printed my photographs on reflective aluminium to reinforce the conceptual links to the artificial and isolated environments in the work. The cold, stark materials have a blue tinge to them, mirroring the psychological state of mind shaped by these industrial environments.
