I strove to create portraits of myself and others which capture an aesthetic manifestation of the deep and complex nature of the individual. There is a dark essence to my photographs as I also wanted to explore the way in which people can be oppressed by their surroundings. I aimed to orchestrate narrative, whimsical set-ups that embody the essence of my subjects and the subtle characteristics that I have observed. I consciously chose and arranged things from my subjects’ homes, making order of chaos until I felt the assemblage presented a glimpse of these intricate individuals. I am inspired by photographers whose work evokes an emotive, atmospheric quality and by their study of humans.
