Through this work I wanted to question aesthetics, question the notion of beauty. Why are some people considered beautiful and others not, and does this aesthetic appearance then define who you are? I wanted to explore a range of dominant features considered attractive in contemporary society across a range of different ethnicities, using both traditional and postmodern mediums and practices to emphasise evolving perceptions of beauty over time. Aimed at an adolescent audience, I ask them to confront any feelings of insufficiency and inadequacy in their physical appearance as aesthetic beauty does not define you.
