Artist’s statement

Apprehension and psychic tension is a visual representation of the chaos that overwhelms the anxious mind. My personal experience of anxiety fuelled the development of my ideas, thus my piece became almost therapeutic in its production. Through a combination of traditional and contemporary materials, graphite and digital manipulation, I was able to discuss the effects our modern world has on one’s mental state. Use of continuous line work came to embody the distortion caused by stress in its victims. It was the incorporation of hands that questioned the source of irrational worry, suggesting that perhaps anxiety is self-inflicted.
