Artist’s statement

Birds on a wire is an exploration of the relationship between texture and colour. I started with spontaneous markmaking with acrylic paint, pallet knives and a squeegee, then I continued to build texture with oil paint. Critical decisions were made in joining the panels together with oil pastel sticks, forming this piece that is both abstract in its creation and figurative for the viewer.

Influencing artists: Gerhard Richter, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mark Rothko, Gerard Stricher
