Artist’s statement

The shadow represents the unconscious aspects of the personality, which an individual hides from themself and the world around them. My work, Shadows, provokes a questioning of identity among its viewers through my literal representation of the shadow within the medium of black-and-white photography. Shadows draws influence from photographers such as Max Dupain and Trent Parke, and draws conceptual ideas from the philosophies of Karl Jung. The work was created using a 35mm film SLR camera and enlarging and printing in the darkroom.
