Artist’s statement

This artwork represents us separating from nature into a new, constructed world. In this modern era we have changed the face of the world in such a way it can be viewed as having two different aspects: natural and manufactured. The large tear between the islands represents our human evolution away from nature into this contrasting world of metal and concrete buildings, frames and pipes shrouded in smoke. The trees and shrubs contained in the greenhouse domes show that we still need to hang on to nature to provide oxygen and resources for survival.
