Artist’s statement

In this work I have used small scale elements to encourage an intimate dialogue with the audience, giving them access to an appreciation of the intricate and fragile beauty of the organic world. The delicacy of the various organic and technological elements is enhanced by the use of embossing; the sticks and wire create connections between them, as in an electrical circuit, linking these central components of life. The progression in materials from organic to technological, and the use of boxes – a human construct – in the organic pieces reflects the evolution in sculptural materials over time.
