Artist’s statement

Imagination is is a celebration of the unlimited capacity of human imagination.

At first, this series seems to communicate the vanitas tradition of impermanence, decay and emptiness. But the playful, animated insects of my imagination infest the traditional still life and lighten the sombre mood of the work.

The video animation is created in a black, surreal and unrealistic fantasy world. It gives a voice and creates a story for these insects, with their jerky movements and melodramatic voices adding light humour.

The work invites the audience’s imagination into this wonderland. For without the imagination, there would be nothing.
