I explored 'the wall’ concept as both a tangible entity and a metaphor. Walls can be decorative, they represent ownership or power, and are often used as a means of protection: physical and mental barriers to keep people or thoughts and memories at bay. Inspired by poetry, music and films, I took several hundred photographs of walls, and also included images of famous walls to decorate the 'bricks’ of an artificial wall that I created from Kauri timber.
The work is interactive – the audience can become the artist, disassembling and reconstructing the wall like children’s building blocks.
