Wastelands
a poetic legacy

Jeffrey Smart The wasteland II 1945 © Jeffrey Smart

This exhibition reflects the idea of a new picturesque in Australian art, flourishing largely through the legacy of TS Eliot’s poetry. It includes paintings, sculptures, watercolours, photographs and collages, which are based principally on images of abandoned sites and paraphernalia of mid 20th century urban culture – buildings, streets, interiors, objets trouves.

Artists include Jeffrey Smart, Colin Lanceley, Rosalie Gascoigne, Robert Klippel and photographers Max Dupain and David Moore.
