Mitch Cairns Agatha Gothe-Snape (detail), Archibald Prize 2017 winner

Australia’s favourite portrait prize

The annual Archibald Prize is eagerly anticipated by artists and audiences alike.

First awarded in 1921, it is one of Australia’s oldest and most prestigious art awards. Judged by the trustees of the Art Gallery of NSW and awarded to the best portrait painting, the Archibald Prize exhibition is a who’s who of Australian culture – from politicians to celebrities, sporting heroes to artists.

This touring exhibition is an opportunity to see all the finalists in the Archibald Prize 2017.

Online you can view the artworks, read and listen to labels and watch Auslan video with captions. Audio and Auslan also available through Conexu’s free OpenAccess Tours app, available from Apple’s App Store or Google Play.
