What are the dates for the exhibition?
It is open daily from 10 February 2018 up to, and including, 24 June 2018.
What are the hours of the exhibition?
10am to 5pm (last entry 4.30pm)
Wednesdays 10am to 10pm (last entry 9.30pm)
Why do I need to buy tickets for a specific time?
We expect this exhibition to be popular and we want to ensure your visit is not one of long queues and waiting times. Timed tickets are necessary to ensure the exhibition doesn’t become overly crowded.
Where can I buy tickets?
Timed entry tickets can be bought online via Qtix
Multi-visit passes are only available at the Gallery’s ticketing desk.
Tickets bought online will be provided by email as a PDF, which can be scanned on your mobile device or printed for entry into the exhibition.
If you are having problems booking online, call Qtix box office on 136 246, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8.30pm.
Can I buy tickets to the exhibition on the day?
Tickets for the next available session can be bought online or from the Gallery’s ticketing desk.
However, we strongly recommend that you buy your tickets in advance online via Qtix to avoid disappointment as times and dates will sell out.
How much do tickets cost?
$18 adult; $16 concession; $14 member; $44 family (2 adults and up to 3 children); $8 child (5-17 years) – available online via Qtix and at the Gallery’s ticketing desk. A $2 transaction fee applies for online purchases.
$29/$26/$23 multi-visit pass – available only at the Gallery’s ticketing desk.
$5 per student – for education groups booked through the Gallery’s Learning & Participation Office.
Free for children under 5.
Are dining packages available?
We offer a dining package which combines an untimed exhibition ticket with a meal in the restaurant Chiswick at the Gallery.

Are school or group bookings available?
Educations group visits from primary to tertiary when booked through Gallery’s Learning & Participation Office

What is a multi-visit pass?
A multi-visit pass is an untimed and undated ticket that allows you to visit the exhibition as many times as you like. It is non-transferable and valid ID must be presented on entry to the exhibition. If you have one of these tickets, please see staff in the waiting area on the Gallery’s ground level. You’ll be admitted to the next available session; there may be a waiting period.
Multi-visit passes can only be bought at the Gallery’s ticketing desk (not online).
Who can buy concession, member and family tickets?
The following definitions apply to exhibitions and events at the Gallery that have charges. Appropriate ID may be required on entry or at time of purchase.
Concession is for:
- Full-time students aged over 17 (including high school, TAFE, university and international students, with a valid student card)
- Holders of seniors cards issued by any Australian state or territory government
- Pension cardholders (including disability support, aged)
- Centrelink cardholders
- Veterans Affairs cardholders
- Members of AAGGO (Association of Australian Gallery Guiding Organisations), Museums Australia, National Art Collection Fund (UK) or NAVA (National Association for the Visual Arts)
Family tickets are for two adults and up to three children. Children must be of school age (5-17 years) and may be asked to present a valid student card at exhibition entrance. Separate tickets need to be purchased for additional adults/children. Although college and university students are eligible for concession entry if they have valid current student ID, they are not eligible for the child concession component of a family ticket.
Member is for members of the Art Gallery of NSW’s member organisation, the Art Gallery Society of NSW, as well as members of the National Gallery of Australia, any other state gallery or any NSW regional gallery.
What about companion card holders?
A carer or person who supports a visitor with disability or frailty is admitted free on presentation of a companion card. Please see staff at the ticketing desk on the Gallery’s ground level.
The visitor you are assisting will need to buy a concession entry, and we strongly suggest that this is pre-purchased online so as to guarantee entry for the chosen day and time.
Do members receive any benefits?
Members pay a discounted price of $14. They are also invited to free members’ viewings. For details, see members free viewing
You can become a member when you’re at the Gallery by visiting the members desk or the information/ticketing desk on the ground floor or the members lounge on lower level 3. Or you can join online. As well as other benefits, new members will receive a free ticket to the exhibition. See Become a member.
How do I use an untimed ticket?
A small number of untimed and undated tickets will be issued (eg multi-visit passes, tickets for new members who join the Gallery). If you have one of these tickets, please see staff at the exhibition entrance on the Gallery’s ground level. You’ll be admitted to the next available session; there may be a waiting period.
This also applies to all tickets for The lady and the unicorn bought BEFORE timed tickets started being issued on 18 January 2018.
How long does it take to see the exhibition?
The estimated average length of a visit is 30-45 minutes.
Is there a restriction to how long I can spend in the exhibition?
While entry to the exhibition must be at the allocated time on your ticket, you can take as long as you like to enjoy the exhibition during normal operating hours.
Can I enter and exit the exhibition more than once with my ticket?
Each ticket is valid for a single entry only except if you have bought a multi-visit pass (see above) which allows you to visit the exhibition as many times as you like. Please note that Gallery staff will accommodate re-entry in certain circumstances.
Do I need a ticket for the rest of the Gallery?
No. The Art Gallery of NSW is free to visit, with the exception of some special exhibitions and events.
Is there a shared ticket with other paid exhibitions?
No. The Gallery itself and most displays are free.
While The lady and the unicorn is on display (10 February – 24 June 2018), the other paid exhibitions at the Gallery are Rembrandt and the Dutch golden age: masterpieces from the Rijksmuseum (until 18 February 2018), Robert Mapplethorpe: the perfect medium (until 4 March 2018) and Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2018 (12 May – 9 September 2018). Tickets to these exhibitions are sold separately and are not dated or timed so they can be used at anytime the exhibitions are open. You can buy them at the Gallery but we recommend you avoid the ticket queues by buying online via Qtix.
Can I exchange my tickets for another date if due to unforeseen circumstances I cannot make the original booking date?
Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged, but if something happens on the day please enquire at the information/ticketing desk on ground level or call Qtix on 136 246 before your session time.
What happens if I miss my timeslot?
It is essential that you arrive in time to enter the exhibition within 15 minutes of your allocated time. If you are late, please go to the ticketing desk on ground level. Staff will try to place you in the next available session; however, the Gallery cannot guarantee availability.
Can someone else use a ticket I bought?
There are no names on tickets so they can be used by anyone, regardless of who purchased it except for multi-visit passes (see above) which are non-transferable and require a form of ID to be presented on entry to the exhibition.
Who is Qtix and why do I need to provide personal details online?
Tickets for all our paying exhibitions are currently sold through Qtix, a Brisbane-based ticketing company that sells tickets on behalf of various Australian arts organisations, including the Australian Museum, Australian Chamber Orchestra and Queensland Art Gallery/GoMA among others.
You can choose to create a Qtix account the first time you book tickets through them, which you can then use for future bookings. This is not linked to your Gallery accounts such as membership. Some basic personal information is required so that Qtix can process and manage your booking (other details are optional). A guest checkout option is also available where limited information is required.
Is photography permitted in the exhibition?
Yes, you can take photos in the exhibition as long as you don’t use a flash, selfie-stick or tripod. We would love it if you could tag us too: @artgalleryofnsw #theladyandtheunicorn
Can I use a pram, stroller, walking frame or wheelchair in the exhibition?
Prams and strollers can be taken into the exhibition, however space is limited. Walking frames and wheelchairs can also be brought to the Gallery, and there are also a limited number of wheelchairs available for use without charge. See access

Due to limited space, we are offering an exhibition introduction rather than a standard tour. For more details, see Exhibition introduction.
Guided experiences in Cantonese and Mandarin can also be booked in advance. More information is available on the Gallery’s Chinese language website.
