Showcases the work of one of Australia’s most significant contemporary artists
Australian photo-media artist Pat Brassington has an incisive ability to infuse the familiar with the fantastic.
In her work, domestic spaces are recast in an eerie light and bodies confound our expectations of anatomy. Distorted, however subtly, through digital manipulation, they are abject and anxious, fluid and flexible. Draped in sinister shadows or segmented into body parts, Brassington’s figures are, at once, intimate and alien.
Featuring early work alongside recent material from the Gallery’s collection, this exhibition traces recurring motifs that have haunted her practice since the 1980s and examines her particular use of visceral and allegorical imagery.
