Hidden war

Unknown photographer Untitled (28th Reinforcements of the AIF Field Artillery) 1918 (detail), gift of the family of Cecil Bostock

Stories from the trenches of the First World War, collected from the Art Gallery of NSW archive

Hidden war looks at the impact that World War I had on three artists: sculptor Dora Ohlfsen (‘the reluctant fascist’), painter Weaver Hawkins (‘the ardent pacifist’) and photographer Cecil Bostock (‘the fighting photographer’).

This exhibition in the Gallery’s research library and archive showcases many of the objects – letters, journals, photographs, sketches and personal objects – included in the Gallery’s immersive online story of the same title.
