  • About

'…the materials themselves are wonderful and fascinating and this is a piece that was really born from the materials…'
    Colin Lanceley 2000

Colin Lanceley's work highlights his relish for the seductive nuances of his materials; for their textured beauty and evocative power. Using found materials and ephemera, Lanceley reconstitutes disparate fragments into new wholes, as exemplified by 'Gemini'. Inspired by the Zodiac sign of the twins, Lanceley employs a winged structure to explore formal relationships between found shapes, which are assembled in an almost painterly rhythm.

In 1964 Lanceley was awarded the Helena Rubinstein Travelling Art Scholarship for a selection of works including 'Gemini'. This work is one of his most ambitious of the period between his involvement in Sydney with the Imitation Realists of 1961–62 and his departure for Europe in 1965.
