  • About

Gilbert Bayes was commissioned to make two equestrian bronzes for the National Art Gallery of New South Wales in 1916, 'The Offerings of Peace' and 'The Offerings of War'. His fellow painter Frank Salisbury visited him in his studio when he was working on the full size plaster casts of these works and made this painting of Bayes at work. Salisbury's painting suggests that Bayes used a live horse and model in his studio.
