    This photograph was taken when Margaret Preston (then Rose McPherson) had returned from her art studies in Melbourne to Adelaide and was conducting art classes in the city. Photographer Dorothy Warner is described in 'The Lone Hand' magazine (1 January 1919) as 'South Australia's first woman photographer'. She had a studio based in her home town of Kapunda, north of Adelaide.
