About
In this print Ada Bird Petyarre depicts the awelye (body paint) for arnkerrthe, the mountain devil lizard. The mass of curved lines is directly taken from the lines of ochre painted on the breasts, shoulders and upper torso of the body. Ada Bird has transformed this linear pattern into a complex and interlocking arrangement of forms that represent the women gathering for the ceremony.
The mountain devil lizard is the important ancestral figure for Ada Bird and her country, Anungara.
