About
This work originated from Puri, one of the chief religious centres and pilgrimage sites in India. Produced as souvenirs for pilgrims to the Temple of Jagannath and used for worship in house shrines. Pilgrim paintings typically portray the main deities enshrined at the Temple-Jagannath with his brother Balbhadra and sister Subhadra. This work illustrates the blue child Krishna with his older brother Balarama and their mother. It is a record of the process used by the chitrakar, temple painter.
