About
Locust Jones’ practice is centred on expressive drawing, which informs his printmaking, painting and sculpture. It engages international politics and current events as the artist experiences them through the media, as well as his own travels abroad. Jones sources many of his images from the internet, newspapers and electronic media, tackling subjects including climate change, world politics and economics, with an excoriating and personal directness that heightens their effect, and questions the narratives we are subject to as consumers of media and global citizens.
In this large-scale drawing Jones worked every day for three months without a vision of the overall image. Every morning before unrolling a section of the paper scroll he listened to the radio, read the papers and scrolled through online news, gleaning headlines and images that feed into his daily drawing without filter. In this work, you can follow a visual diary of the events and people that made the daily news from New Year’s Eve to April Fools’ Day 2018.
