  • About

Patricia Piccinini works with photography, sculpture, installation and video in order to present layered ideas about the body and it's environment. '1:00.613.5' depicts the 'The Speeder'- a fictional athlete played by Australian Olympian cyclist Shane Kelly- in full flight, the helmet turning his head into that which is neither human, nor machine nor insect but something built for speed. The smooth gleaming racing costume enhances the effect of slipperiness through, in this case, the air. The race track blurs into the background as 'The Speeder' has left the ground through his speediness and leapt into another space/time continuum.

This work was shown in 'Sheen' a site specific installation by Piccinini in the 1998 Adelaide Festival featuring the digital photograph series '1:00.613', a video-installation and cocktail bar.
