About
This drawing is closely related to a painting in the collection, ‘The aspects regard one another’ 1965, acquired in 1968, from the earliest period of Peart’s career. This multi-panelled painting presaged both his subsequent and short-lived interest in minimalist hard edge painting, and the qualities of his later work; namely, lyrical abstraction.
During this period, Peart made a large number of drawings. Exploratory and calligraphic in nature, he sought to capture the immediacy of the painting experience, in spontaneous drawings and paintings on paper considering colour, space and form.
