About
'I could say that these pictures are about an obsessive Australian pastime. At the beach. Really, though, the concerns are simpler: an excuse, if one is needed, to work when light and space and attitude are open; where bodies and emotions are unveiled and made accessible; where the camera is given licence to divulge, yet does not intrude.' Fiona Hall 1986
This photograph was taken with a large-format camera, which produces fine detail and requires careful composition of the subject. Although such a process does not usually allow for spontaneity, Hall invests the images with a relaxed attitude and carefree spirit.
