  • About

Nancy Goldfinch studied plein air painting with Will Ashton, then at the Royal Society of Art with Sydney Long, and later at Dattilo Rubbo's school, where she was introduced to the work of Cézanne and van Gogh. Travelling to England in the early 1930s she continued her studies at the Chelsea School of Art and in Cornwall with British artist SJ Lamorna Birch.
Clearly demonstrating her admiration of the works of Cézanne, Derain and Marquet, this painting was included in her second solo exhibition at Macquarie Galleries in 1940; where her oil and watercolour landscapes of England and Bruges sold well and received much favourable critical comment in the press.
