About
Yamamoto began studying ceramics in 1922 and became apprenticed to the Kyoto potter Kusube Yaichi (1897 - 1984) in 1938. Yamamoto entered many exhibitions, including the 'Dento Kogei Kai' 13 times. In 1956 he was designated an 'Okayama Prefectural Important Intangible Cultural Asset'. In 1959 he was awarded a prize at the Firenze International Exhibition. Yamamoto received the Okayama Cultural Award in 1972, and subsequently many other awards.
Although small, tea caddies appear in a wide variety of shapes and glazes. They traditionally have an ivory lid and more treasured ones are accompanied by a silk bag which prevents the surface being scratched.
