About
This series was made when Judell was living at McMahons Point, Sydney during an unhappy time in her personal life. The series has a duality - informed by both the subject of death and the rituals surrounding it, as well as the idea of transformation or the spirit rising up. The title of this series, ‘The order’, was inspired by Judell’s upbringing in the Catholic church, which as a child she thought of as ‘…something black, scary, profound – with great rigidity and control’ (Anne Judell, 2016, Art Gallery NSW files).
