About
William Strang was the chief pupil of Alphonse Legros, whose paramount influence is apparent. Strang made over 700 etchings and engravings between 1880 and 1920. His oeuvre consists of pseudo-classical subjects, contemporary scenes and portraits. As well as intaglio prints, Strang also produced a number of woodcuts and contributed illustrations to the ‘Yellow Book’ 1895, and The Dome 1898-1900. Strang exhibited with the Society of Painter-Etchers from 1881. He was elected ARA in 1906 and RA (engraver) in 1921.
