The story is told in Ovid's 'Metamorphoses': Cephalus and Procris were devoted in marriage, however, Procris had her suspicions aroused over her husband's morning hunting expeditions. One morning she followed him, keeping herself hidden. Cephalus, hearing a noise among the leaves and thinking that it was a wild animal, threw his lance
