  • About

Kevin Lincoln first exhibited with Melbourne's 'Realist group' in 1965 - a loose association of artists with communist sympathies, which had been showing since the 1940s. It is a rare figurative collagraph made by the artist during his social realist period in the 1960s, when he worked almost exclusively in printmaking.

Lincoln's prints were very experimental at the time - he made collagraphs by drawing into wet plaster on hardboard with his fingers, and carving into it, printing the result in relief. This simple method was quick, and spontaneous, which appealed to him. He has continued making prints in the intervening decades.
