  • About

The photographs of Steven Lojewski often reveal the unseen in the built environment, the quirky forms that seem to escape ordinary vision. Lojewski was born in London and spent early years in Canada, before moving to Melbourne and studying photography at Prahran College of Advanced Education. He moved to Sydney in the mid 1970s, where he began teaching at Sydney College of the Arts after having studied there. His work is concerned with formal elements of shape, line and texture. These elements are often juxtaposed through unlikely camera angles and sharp perspectives to create layered images. Architectural symbols are framed in isolation with simple beauty, or else thrown against each other in collages that suggest the visual fragmentation of architecture in the highly developed metropolis. In these views from Sydney rooftops, simple architectural elements such as the dome of the Queen Victoria Building are eloquently framed within Lojewski's formal compositions.
