About
“This work was a preliminary sketch for larger paintings. It presents just the subject of the still life – lilies and a vase, floating on the paper. This study was used for paintings produced for my 2014 exhibition ‘Inside world’ [Station Gallery, South Yarra, Victoria 24 April – 17 May 2014]. The particular vase was chosen for its formal qualities that would interact with the other imagery used within this exhibition. These images were sampled from a range of sources including record covers, Memphis era design and hard edge abstraction. The curved form of the vase reflects and highlights many of the elements that were later added in the final paintings.” Dane Lovett, 2014
