About

Pan Silian, a native of Nanhai, Guangdong, gained his 'jinshi' degree in 1847 and became a compiler at the imperial Hanlin Academy. He served as a ranking official at the Board of Revenue and Population, and the Director of Education in Shandong, Zhejiang.
