About
‘The songs are simple ones … the beauty lies in the extemporising of the patterns, beauty begets beauty and infects the jaded city dweller till he also wants only to lie on some green island, where the tropic moon rises in a velvet sky and the palm sing above the life below’.
Ray Crooke Island Journal 2000
Ray Crooke is renowned for his paintings of tropical landscapes and peoples, having travelled extensively through north Queensland and various Pacific islands. 'Fijian landscape with three women' highlights Crooke’s interest in island life, and his exploration of contour and silhouette, using rich blocks of colour.
