This is an example of an important tool in traditional Balinese life, namely the 'tika' or traditional 210-day calendar used to decide the correct timing for important activities such as festivals and harvests. The 'tika' controls the ritual of the temples and of the families for the majority of the Balinese population. For example, babies have important rituals performed for their welfare at 42, 105 and 210 days, and the festival of Galungan, when the ancestors return to visit their descendant is also set by the 'tika'. The calendar also provides a detailed scheme of auspicious and inauspicious days for virtually every activity.
