Untitled (Portrait of a seated woman)
23 Jun 1891 - 19 Nov 1973
Adelaide Perry had a remarkable facility for drawing. Her perceptive and angular rendering of form was acutely expressed in drawings from life, including portraiture, still life and the nude. As a teacher of art to aspiring professionals as well as children, she utilised life drawing and printmaking in instructing others, as well as in her own practice.
Perry painted many portraits during her career. (Portrait of a seated woman), a portrait of an unidentified subject, is typical of the period in its presentation of a well-dressed female subject, seated demurely in half-profile.
