Bec Dean joined Performance Space, a cultural agency that presents contemporary artistic experiences across a multiplicity of sites, as associate director in 2007 and became co-director with Jeff Khan in 2012. She is a curator and writer who trained as a visual artist. Bec was previously curator at the Australian Centre for Photography and exhibition manager at Perth Institute of Contemporary Art. She has written for many publications including Artlink, Art & Australia, Broadsheet and RealTime, as well as catalogue essays for many institutions including the Art Gallery of NSW. Her curatorial interests revolve around interdisciplinary and participatory practices, performance, site-specificity and photomedia. Bec will provide her insights regarding the recent institutional interest in performative practices and will consider the future of performance art in Australia.
