Walking tour with Justin Paton

The curator of ‘Unguided tours’ explores the idea of the journey in art.

Join the curator of Unguided tours on a walking tour as he explores the time-honoured theme of the journey in contemporary art. Leading from Unguided tours through the contemporary collections and into the John Kaldor Family Gallery, Justin’s tour will encompass major works by artists as varied as Anselm Kiefer, Callum Morton, Francis Alÿs, Shaun Gladwell and more. Along the way, he’ll discuss spiritual quests, roads to nowhere, the relationship between art and nature, and the importance of walking in a sped-up world.

Described as ‘New Zealand’s most readable art critic’, Paton is senior curator at Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu and author of the award-winning book How to look at a painting.
