Teenage Art Club
For ages 13+
A new series of monthly classes for young artists to explore and nurture their creativity. Looking at different artworks in the collection each month, we will gain inspiration through discussion shared ideas and techniques, then create our own individual work. With Art Club teacher Karen O’Connor, this is an ideal follow up for kids who have completed our Art Club program.

Succulent still life CANCELLED
In this workshop will design and paint a small still life of a succulent in a vase, using acrylic painting on board.
Sunday 18 March 2018 10:30am – 12pm
Looking at a variety of footwear, fancy or plain, let’s invent some fun designs and make some shoe sculptures using clay.
We look at mandala motifs, design an image and then fluoro print it on a calico bag.
Inspired by the The lady and the unicorn exhibition, we will design our own composition using motifs found in the tapestries on display. A myriad of animals fruits and flowers can be found in these intricate and delicate tapestries. Sketch out your magical story then paint it with watercolours.
Animals and nature - Charcoal drawing
We will look at how animals have been depicted in drawing and painting throughout art history and make drawings of animals using charcoal, concentrating on texture tone and expression.
Food in art - Still life
The Still Life has been a classic genre throughout art history. For this workshop we will create our own modern still life using contemporary food and objects. Bring in one of your favourite foods, and a fun object you’d like to draw, and together we will compose a lively still life to draw.
Using graphite and coloured pencil, we will focus on colour and tone, shadow and light.
Looking at ourselves in a mirror and through our smart phones, we will create a fun take on the popular Selfie! Bring your phone, ipod or ipad if you have one.
Make a contemporary collage by building up your image using a combination of newspaper, coloured paper and pastels. Inspired by works in the collection, collect a variety of ideas and imagery to use in your own work.
