Poetic threads: The lady and the unicorn
Part of the Sydney Writers’ Festival 2018
'This is the animal that doesn’t exist.’ ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
Ignite your senses with poetic performances that reimagine The lady and the unicorn tapestries.
These rare medieval tapestries have long inspired writers, from George Sand to Rainer Maria Rilke. In this unique production, Poetic threads continues this literary tradition with three newly commissioned poetic responses from celebrated performers Mirrah, Candy Royalle and Scott Wings.
In this intimate encounter with the artworks, peer through the poetic lens of medieval myth, magic and mystery of The lady and the unicorn. Mirrah, Candy and Scott invite you into the woven world of the tapestries—the first time they have been interpreted through the voices of Australian poets.
With exclusive access to The lady and the unicorn tapestries, performances take place inside the exhibition to a limited audience before public hours.
Poetic threads is presented by the Art Gallery of NSW, Red Room Poetry and Sydney Writers’ Festival and is supported by Atelier, the next generation of benefactors at the Art Gallery of NSW.
