Photography talk: Debra Phillips on Ingeborg Tyssen

Learn more about Tyssen's work

Six photographs by the late Ingeborg Tyssen are currently on display in our Australian galleries. In this talk, Debra Phillips will discuss how Tyssen created a real sense of alienation and isolation between her subjects and their environments in her ‘People’ series. Debra will also explain how Tyssen’s work and enthusiasm for the photographic medium has influenced her own art-making practice.

Debra Phillips is a senior lecturer in photography at UNSW Art & Design. As a photographer, her work is represented in national, international and private collections. A solo survey exhibition of her work was held at the Art Gallery of NSW in 1995. In her photographic practice, she is interested in systems of knowledge and understanding and their relationship to the making, thinking and shaping of individual and world views.
